Cozy Sale Author FAQ

2
  • Q. What is the Cozy the Day Away Sale?
    • It’s a one-day sale that happens four times a year, specifically for the cozy fantasy genre.
  • Q. Is it just cozy fantasy books?
    • It’s cozy fantasy and cozy fantasy “adjacent”. Content warnings will be how you guide the reader to determine what’s comfortable for their reading.
  • Q. Will there be a cozy adjacent category?
    • Yes, there is going to be a “cozy adjacent” category. Cozy mysteries have been an established subgenre for some time within Mystery/Thriller, but I recognize that there is some overlap. Only you can determine if your book falls into cozy fantasy.
  • Q. Is this the same format as Stuff Your Kindle?
    • Not really. Stuff Your Kindle has a few limitations. 1), it is for Kindle Unlimited books on Amazon only, and 2), it is only the romance genre. Cozy the Day Away is for ebooks, paperback books, hardcover books, and audiobooks. Authors may list their books outside of Amazon, opening up all kinds of distributors. We ask the authors to drop the price as low as they can without taking a loss and advertise what the savings are, ie, 50%, 75%, 90% off, et cetera. The idea of the sale is to generate a volume of readers finding us in one place or at one time, making it easier for them to find other cozy authors.
  • Q. How does it work?
    • Promise Press keeps a master directory of many cozy fantasy authors and their books’ information. This list is not public. But from this directory is built a sub-list of books by authors who want to consent to the next sale. If you aren’t sure if you are on the master directory, you can email directly, but it’s faster to fill out the consent form opting in to the next sale.
  • Q. How do I know if I’m on the master list?
    • If you are on the “Fireside Fantasy” directory from the same-titled Facebook group, Steven Rowland’s recommendation guide from his “Cozy Fantasy” Reddit, or the Cozy Favorites list that just started developing on “The Cozy Quill,” which is Meg’s Tea Room’s Discord, then you are on it.
  • Q. Tell me more about the master directory.
    • It’s a resource document so I can contact fellow authors, get their book’s info quickly if I am having trouble reaching an author, and to sort by category/keywords in case I’m publishing the sale day list with subcategories like themes/tropes. This directory will be curated over time as I find new titles. From the master directory comes a sub-list, which will serve as a temporary list I build in order to handle the influx of consent and information for each sale date.
  • Q. Once I opt-in to one sale date, does that lock me in for the rest of the year? Or lock in one book/series?
    • Certainly not. A new sub-list will be created for each sale for maximum versatility. This allows you to opt-in different books or series at different times of the year or for new releases. After the first sale date, the consent form will include a new question of “Do you want to enroll the same book/series as the last sale or do you have a new listing?”
    • A new consent form will go out before every sale. This allows me to track what authors are signing up for what sale.
  • Q. What price am I supposed to mark my books at?
    • That’s up to you. We are not making our authors commit to free or penny or dollar. We encourage at LEAST a 50% drop in price in order to attract as many readers as possible. After all, it’s for one day. But the amount of the discount is what you can comfortably handle without taking a loss.
  • Q. What are the sale dates for 2024?
    • The dates are:
      • April 26th
      • July 12th
      • October 14th
      • December 29th
  • Q. I see on the consent form that you ask the author to describe both the book’s diversity rep and the personal diversity of the author. Do I have to answer that?
    • Your book’s diversity will be discussed among readers once you publish, so, yes, we ask that you tell us about that upfront. If you consent to us sharing the author diversity, we may publish that as a category on the sale date. An example: Categories could be “books with LGBTQ rep, books with disability rep, books by authors with diversity rep.” However, we consider it the right of the author to keep their diversity private if they wish, so whatever you indicate can be shared on the consent form will be honored.
  • Q. Will my links be tested before the sale date?
    • I will be personally testing each link for the April 26th sale date, but after that, authors will be responsible for testing your own hyperlinks.
    • Reminder: YOU would be responsible for setting up your sale prices and where. I’m in charge of the list, see. Not your individual marketing, your file formats, where you list them, et cetera. Choose the one link you give me wisely, as you want them to be directed to your author website, your Draft2Digital page, your Goodreads author page, or somewhere else.
  • Q. Sounds great, I’m in! What do I do now?
    • If you want to opt in to the sub-list, email me at info@promisepress.org for details.
  • Q. It sounds great, but I don’t want to/can’t participate in the next sale date. How do I remove myself from the sale?
    • If you do not want to be on the sub list, you don’t have to do anything. Your entries will remain on my master directory as a resource tool should you ever want to opt in. You are only enrolled in a sale if you complete the consent form. There will be a consent form before every sale.
